Centrifugation of RATS
As part of our conquest of the planet Mars, it is of the very first importance to know the impact of a gravity limited to 1/3 of the Earth's gravity. The strategy that we will adopt, whether for the vessels or for the Martian base, is modelled on the data that we will obtain as a result of experimentation in space of rat centrifugation.
First, the vessels will be different from those described in this work if the Martian gravity would be sufficient to keep the marsonautes in good health. It would suffice to wait for the conquerors to regain their strength to go for the construction of the modules. So in this case, we could send "Bigelow" or "Mars One" modules, but smaller, to meet the standards of current launchers. Following the resumption of their physical forms, they would be ready to receive the other marsonautes who differentiating them in modules as described in this book. The costs of this method would be slightly higher, in the order of 10-15% (preliminary), and we would not have to send a centrifuge to Mars. On the other hand, it would no longer be necessary to build vessels with centrifugation, which would be better from a security point of view...
Second, to minimize at all costs, the impact of the non-gravity of space, we would benefit from using the new technology (according to some, old), atomic rockets that can provide ISPs of the order of 1000 seconds (instead of 350), and So make the journey Earth-Mars in an extraordinary time of two months and dust. It is certain that the more the journey of the Atomic Rockets will be short, the more expensive it will be, for example if the cost of a staff vessel is 3.4 billion (200 days centrifuged), it will be less expensive for two months in atomic rocket (10 marsonautes instead of 100).
Third, if it is established that the Martian gravity is not sufficient to restore or maintain the human being in a physical state at least normal, the situation changes a lot. It is necessary to centrifuge the marsonautes on the spot and in the event or time of travel plus the construction time of the centrifuge is not too long, hurry to do all this. We could, however, as described in this book, centrifuge the Marsonautes in space, for a period of time sufficient for their recovery, and take advantage of this state of good physical form to hurry to build the centrifuge ( Outside or underground). The possibilities of space centrifuge are limited, either as the one described in my book or a more compact which would have as a disadvantage to stun the marsonautes that should in the udder of cases be anesthetized. I believe that 25-100 meters should be a sufficient radius for this centrifuge.
In conclusion, the centrifugation of rats is simple and low risk. We will have to centrifuge them into two separate groups in space inside the International Space Station or another complex that can accommodate the experience. The first for the case where 1/3 of the Earth's gravity will be sufficient, with as parameter 3 m/s ² acceleration. The second (which includes several), in order to save time during the experiment of rats, with parameters, 3 m/s ² for different periods and 9.8 m/s ² for the remainder of the daily cycle of 24 hours. The whole thing to know the different mission parameters before leaving:) As you know, I have not waited for this data to start the work, but it is necessary to be very serious with the money of the people that can not be wasted. Approximate cost: US $500 000 000, if a space module is to be added to the international station. It might be possible, to send the rats without constant surveillance, and retrieve them for analysis at the very end, which would reduce the cost of a sixth. To see...
